Trusty Sound Gear
When searching for a new mp3 punter the trail always leads me back to Sony. Its more in the air overall quality then brand loyalty. Greater than the years Sony's Walkman line has gone the distance and more. The all new Sony S Series Walkman adds to the legacy. The S-540 8gb Walkman brings it on with a curly, color enhanced 2.4" LCD screen that is lenient on the eyes. At 2" x 4" x .4", it comes in a bit larger then its older cousin. A larger assembly undoubtedly is required to provide support for the external spieler system. The speakers won't get confused with my home routine anytime soon but they do provide an excellent horse's mouth. With headphones on, this mp3 player delivers a cornucopia of impression. Missing but not that noticeable is the noise reduction be. The on board equalizer can be tweaked to one's own preferences or users can opt one of the six presets. The Navigation pad located directly under the partition off is a breeze to operate. Three controls are located on the repay side...

concealment alert!
I like this whim, but everyone should know what's in the EULA (End Purchaser License Agreement). Under the heading SOFTWARE Facts COLLECTION AND MONITORING is "The SOFTWARE contains features which may suffer SONY and/or third parties to collect data from, direct and/or monitor computers and devices running or interacting with the SOFTWARE. You hereby acceptance to such activities."When installing the software the selection to agree or disagree with the EULA appears. I disagreed and canceled the software consecration. I can still use Windows Explorer to drag-and-drop files. I reasoning by not agreeing with the EULA (and thus not installing the software) I cursed the ability to convert video files but the option appears each dated I transfer such files. It must be inherent in the trouper. See below for more.Other reviewers say that the divide scratches easily. The player doesn't come with a patient cover and I didn't want to pay $20 for one so I bought a finish of...

Consequential Sound Quality
This module has great, traditional Sony sound quality. And I write this not the score with using the headphones yet, but simply from the built-in speakers. Perchance I am aging, but I do like to listen to music (and definitely portable radio) without headphones. This player has a good prudent that is very clear and detailed with not much in the low frequency, but natural clarity in the mid to high frequencies. Don't expect theater grumble with these little guys, but it is respectable - my neighbor ordered heard it while outside and said it sounds permissible, and I was surprised he could hear it!So far great battery lifestyle, very easy to use (esp. w/ media monkey), and a nice looking performer. The directional pad could be a bit bigger, but that is a minor soup to a great sounding player at this price. Well recommended.

There is unendingly one thing wrong...
I just now received this item yesterday. It comes with all kinds of cords and the component itself is actually a little smaller than an Ipod Nano with dulcet much all the same functionality. That being said, lets get down to it..Pros: Comes with two mate of head phones. One is wireless and the other is a 3.5 wired partner. 2) Come with different sized ear buds. 3)The ear buds are serene. Today I finished 3 miles on the elliptical machine and didnt unvaried feel them. 4)It charges quickly and after 2 hours of connected play with the wireless head phones, the mistreat meter is still full. 5)I actually got 2+ hours of godly sound quality out of the wireless head phones and they lull aren't dead. 6) Its easy to put music on the instrument and it has pre-set up folders for videos, pod cast, pictures, music, etc. It does settle with pre-loaded music, video, and pics for derange paper but its easily deletable. 7)The wireless headphones get with a little box for operation. Its really light and comes...

Surely fragile glass
I bought one of these at Maximum effort Buy the day it first hit the shelves, because I was wanting a good MP3 punter that was capable of broadcasting my music through Bluetooth, and it had to prepare decent battery life. This fits both of those criteria nicely. The at most problem was the device, being so new, didn't have any accessories (cases, skins, etc.) elbow for it. Due to this I had just been tossing it into my lift each morning.Big mistake. After about 3 weeks of day after day pocket use, the screen on this thing looks like I've been rubbing sandpaper against it. Victual in mind it has been the only thing in my pocket. No purse, no keys, no pens or pencils or spare change. Exactly the Walkman. I guess I had kind of gotten spoiled with the 'gorilla tumbler' of other devices (I still have an iPhone 3G that looks skilful even after years of being tossed in pockets and backpacks). So equitable let this be a cautionary tale, protect the screen of this guy somehow. At the moment, even...

Who Needs an Ipod?
This is the 3rd Sony Walkman MP3 sportsman I've purchased; I lost the first one and the second one mysteriously died. This one is a superb upgrade to my old one. The bluetooth headset is especially convenient; the survey, as always, is great; and the earbuds are very comfortable. The solely 2 annoying features about this player is 1, everytime your repel it on, it tries to pair with the bluetooth earbuds and 2, the music catalogue raisonn takes a couple seconds to reload when you bankrupt up from "now playing" to your entire library.

Flagrant Radio -- Great Price!
This is a superb little radio. The reception is very good (much more safely a improved than a few headphone/radio setup's I've owned), and it is perfect well made. It's solid and tough. And it's smaller than a assemblage of cigarettes. There are only 2 downsides I can think of:1. It doesn't force a digital tuner. This can be a major problem with this disseminate if you're a profuse channel changer. Dialing in your stations is a bit artful as the slightest adjustment to the tuning dial will send it across varied channels. But if you're like me (I pretty much stay on one pass all the time), you'll find this radio to be perfect for you!2. The headphones stink. They do the job, but the transistor is actually much better sounding than the headphones consider you to appreciate. It takes only one AA battery and it will survive a VERY long time. A set of two AA's will last you dozens of hours.I advise this radio highly.

Astonishing.
Man, I impose upon I knew about this radio a year ago when I bought a authoritatively-rated but, as it turned out, temperamental digital pocket crystal set. This one has most of the digital radio's virtues and not any of its flaws. Reception of the stations I listen to is fine, AM commonsensical is good, and FM sound quality is fantastic, comparing positively favorably to the digital. The local classical station sounds beatified, and "Coast to Coast AM" doesn't fade out on me. Construction is lightweight and unusually rugged. The tuning dial is a little difficult to top-grade-tune; if Sony wants to improve this model, they'll add up to a large disk-type dial with a recessed window that shows the frequency in preference to of this tiny and ambiguous linear scale. The included headphones don't do legitimacy to the radio's clean sound--an extra $8 to $10 and you're paraphernalia to go. The belt clip appears to be rugged, but only rhythm will tell. It holds the radio firmly in position. If you want a simple pocket radio, this one is the win out over...

Surprising Radio
This announce has actually exceeded my expectations. Easily the best swipe radio that I've owned in a good ten years. As well-known by others, this radio has great AM reception. No, the included headphones are not well-founded. But when used with better ones the aspect quality is, dare I say, excellent for a radio of this value. A surpisingly warm, rich sound - not the harsh/weak/thin sound of other radios that I was apologetic of. Compare it to a radio like the god-awful RCA RP1667 in command to truly appreciate how great this little receiver is. And for the price you can't beat it. I even like the analog tuning and bulk controls.Just to correct a previous reviewer, this tranny does indeed receive FM in stereo.[...I not thought I'd write something so positive about anything... what's happened to me?....]

Another Walkman in Dignity
My at the start prerecorded cassette was ELO's first album--that's how extended I've been listening to them! We all know the day of cassette recording or playing is dream of gone; even CD's are considered done in this day of MP3's. No matter how, that doesn't negate the millions, maybe billions, of cassettes that demand been sold over the past 30+ years. Cassettes deceive their faults, but there are so many productions out there that aren't present on any other medium.I've owned cassette players match $300 'way back in the 80's; these are gone also. The call into doubt now is to find a portable Walkman-type player that doesn't normal like crap, and that's last longer than a week or so. I came across a multitude of books on audio cassette at home and wanted to do a re-hark to. Only a couple have been converted to CD.I initially purchased a 'Craig' paragon for less than $20; it's also sold as a Jensen, a Coby, and diversified other names on Amazon. It was a piece of crap; see my march past under the...

a marvellous walkman
This is the still and all item as the FX-290, now with a W added. Only unlikeness is the absence of the TV audio band, which will be irrelevent next February. I ve had three of these walkmans in the years couple of years. One shattered upon impact to the dregs. I didn't have the case on it, and with the other two the fast accelerate button, which I use quite a bit fell off. That being said, this is presumably the greatest walkman I ve owned. The radio cassette player is a slipping away breed and I m glad to see Sony put out a new version of an old favorite. With 35 hours on one AA battery, this is one of the arrant values. I still have hundreds of cassette tapes that I receive taped from XM the last couple of years, and I noiseless take my walks listening to those. Transferring to a CD is an opportunity, but its too much of a bother. With the belt clip its so natural to just walk listening to a cassette, even although the sound quality is not as good as a CD,but it fits my purposes healthful. With AM and FM...

Close basic walkman for music, video, podcasts, audiobooks, and pictures
We now own *3* of these units (extract is the step up 16 gig version, but basically the same). The other two units associated to our 7 and 9 year old. I spent 2.5 solid days researching mp3 players, iPod Nanos (5th and 6th fathering), and iTouches. I learned a lot. Let me summarize our findings and help you forgive why we purchased 3 of these great little units.Needs: audiobooks with bookmarking, podcasts, music, video, organ recording for the occassional lecture/seminar, and pictures (charming to have)Sony meets all of these needs with the subdue price on the market. iPod nanos were priceless: the 5th generation is tough to find for a reasonable price, the 6th siring is TOO small for any of us to enjoy, and the iTouch is far more than we wanted to put in - and was overkill for our needs (I really don't need an app for that.)We use iTunes to govern our music (too many issues with Media Entertainer). The mp3 player comes with the transfer software in the...

For what it's value
For what its advantage, I like the unit, the battery last long plenty for me to make my 18 hours in flights. This portion has but one down fall, You can not create a play list with it. You force to create the play list on your computer and then stuff it in. I find this very inconvenient. I like to work together music I am in the mood for, not plan on what mood I compel be in. If this unit had that I would have rated it higher. Playing at most one song or one album at a time really stinks at times, unless you want to hear the same one over and all through just hit the replay option and you're golden.

A-OK buy if one can live with the drawbacks
Original of all, there is not doubt that this is a great music sportsman. This is light weight, portable and my 8GB model has a favourable enough of space for my songs which is use mostly at gym and at trade. Sound quality of the headphones is not that great, but also not bad if you don't pine for every minute details.Screen resolution is agreeable. As a simple music player and a good alternative to ipod scuffling/nano in terms of price and screen size,i come up with this will be a great buy if one can live with the less than drawbacks.--The player starts off with a light ask of any buttons (mind you the buttons are big). That means when you acknowledge it in jeans pocket and a light press on any of the button desire start of the player. That means drainage of battery. Gave me circa 20 hrs of battery life on my first charge. This power be because 90% of the time when i took this out of my away with, i found this switched on accidentally. Wish sony has a dedicated on/off birch for this--Headphone wire gets...
